Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com on beauty at any age in the Sex and the City movie.
I hope you had a chance to go see the Sex and the City movie. It had been a long time in the making, but it was so worth the wait.
The best way I can describe this movie is that it’s truly a fairly tale for the modern woman. Not only do we want our prince charming, but we also want the couture and designer accessories to go along with Mr. Mc Dreamy!
The couture in the movie is unquestionably perfect and I’d say that Celebrity stylist Patricia Field (who believe it or not is 66!!!) has outdone herself. Every single character (all four are over 40 in the series) looked super sexy and none of them where trying to look 20-something again - these women were celebrating being (over) 40 and fabulous!
Everything was a dream - from the makeup - to the shoes (oh the shoes) - to the handbags - to the jewelry - and of course the designer wear.
Along with giving each character her distinctive signature fashion identity, the makeup artists also gave each woman here own makeup identity.
Samantha, for instance (played by Kim Cattrall) wore colors and shades that you would not see on Charlotte (played by Kristin Davis). One of the biggest trends that I did notice in the movie was smokey eyes. The makeup artists didn’t stop at shades of black or grey, they used shades of green, copper and purple to really play off each character’s beauty.
If you remember at all the wedding photo scene where Carrie was asked to be a model for a wedding spread in Vogue magazine, you might remember one shot where she’s wearing a thick coat of black eyeliner and red lips. That looks stunning … I’m not sure how many real life brides would actually go for that dramatic bridal look, but it was superb on film.
Beauty lessons from the ladies of Sex and the City
When it comes to learning a trick or two about makeup, this movie is a real makeup-101 lesson in my book.
Kim Cattrall, aka Samantha Jones: Samantha’s ultra feminine and glamorous makeup screams diva. Samantha is never shy in complementing her makeup with red bold lips and she does smokey … and she does it without any restrain … she just goes for the ultra smokey vampy look. It goes without saying that Samantha’s hair is always flirty … just like her personality.
Cynthia Nixon, aka Miranda Hobbs: As a redhead Miranda looks best in warm, neutral makeup shades that complement her soft coloring and that über sexy short bob.
Kristin Davis, aka Charlotte York-Goldenblatt: Everything about Charlotte screams “old moneyâ€. Her makeup is always classic, simple and clean to accentuate her features without ever going overboard (a lot like her personality). Charlotte’s hair is always perfectly groomed, whether she is wearing it sleek or dressed.
Sarah Jessica Parker, aka Carrie Bradshaw: Everything about Carrie is about being as original as possible. Carrie accentuates her piercing blue eyes with smokey eyes, black eyeliner, rosy cheeks, and nude lips. When it comes to hairstyle, Carrie looks far better when she plays off her cascade of wavy hair as opposed to when she has it up in a more severe chignon (up do).
