Are you one of those Dancing With The Stars fanatics that has been dying to know how to get a picture-perfect tan like seasoned veteran dancer Kym Johnson? Summer is officially in the air and there is no better time to acheive that perfect healthy glow. Read on as Emmy award-winning chief makeup artist Melanie Mills of Dancing With The Stars breaks down how those spinning beauties achieve such flawless, golden looks.
SO!: Dancer Kym Johnson definitely stood out on the show. How did Kym get such a flawless tan ?
M: For Kym, we used layers of spray tan mix as well as St. Tropez’s line of self-tanners. It’s a line that’s used in many high-end hotels. Guerlain bronzers are also applied to the shoulders and clavicals.
SO!: We understand that you also have your own solution called “Mel’s Mix” that’s used on the contestants. How is it different from St. Tropez and is it available to the public?
M: “Mel’s Mix” is what really gave the dancers that iridescent glow. It’s a cosmetic shimmer glow – not a self-tanner. I’m working with St. Tropez right now to sell the product in their line.
SO!: That’s great news! So maybe fans of the show will finally be able to look like the stars?
M: People should know that we spend up to five hours making these already beautiful people even more beautiful. But they can certainly achieve a beautiful color with the help of St. Tropez.

I am going to turn 64 the 24th of Nov. I love your show! It’s by far the best show on tv. Derek Hough and Julianne are my very favorite. I hope Julianne comes back next season, but I understand she wants to also try her singing career. And, I call them my “kids”. I’m rooting for Derek! LOL, I never could have kids. I would give my eye teeth to come and see the show live, and I’ve looked all over the internet, and I’m not good at it, so never see how to get tickets to anything. I’ll pay for them if I could go for my birthday. I’ll come alone, so only need one seat, just stick it in a corner somewhere. I just want you to know, your show is good for all ages. Thank you for bringing such an entertaining show for us. I wish I had followed my dreams and done dancing, when I wanted to as a young girl. Thanks!
