Expert Panel: SNOB Style’s Erika Stanley on Bravo’s The Fashion Show
FILED UNDER: Exclusive Interviews, Expert Panel, The Fashion Show Posted: May 20, 2009 by behindtheseams | LEAVE A COMMENTLast week’s second episode of Bravo’s The Fashion Show was just as exciting as the first, if not more. Our Expert Panel was more than willing to discuss the major fashion ups and downs and Erika Stanley of SNOB Style had much to say about the impact of a poorly made garment.
SO!: On this episode the designers were being judged for styling the entire look from hair to shoes, how crucial do you think it is that a designer knows how to style a complete outfit? Or is this a job for someone else, such as a stylist?
ES: It is very important for a designer to have a stylist’s eye. When a designer is creating an entire collection they are telling a story and need to sell that story. Unless you can’t tell that story through proper styling, people aren’t going to buy it. At the end of the day, a designer is a salesperson and they are pitching their collection on the runway.
SO!: On this episode the significance of creating a finished product was front and center. As a stylist, how important is it for you to put your clients in a well made garment? Are the little details and mistakes even visual on camera?
ES: It is very important to put your clients in a well-made piece of clothing. There are many ways to compensate if you are working on a tight budget, such as using a less expensive zipper or different button but you can always see if something is poorly sewn. For example, Anna’s skirt was made on a budget but with all of the detailing you couldn’t tell. If you purchased that skirt you would really be getting a bang for your buck.
SO!: On this episode the designers had to make a variety of outfits for Tinsley Mortimor. How important is it to have an expansive wardrobe for a particular client and is it imperative that the looks remain somewhat cohesive?
ES: It very important that the looks remain cohesive. As a celebrity you have a particular persona to uphold, so you must dress appropriate to where you are going but also be true to who you are. Celebrities are a brand and they must maintain a style so that they can be noticed and pinpointed as such. It is all about the theme, creating a story and being consistent.
SO!: Would you have styled any of the models differently?
ES: I think that Daniella and Anna did a pretty good job. For Anna’s look I would have styled the models hair a little differently though. I would have had the hair a little looser and not as rigid. Perhaps a some loose curls. Overall, I think that she did a good job.

I havent heard of snob style before, but I think her insight is on point. I still think Anna should have won and actually disagree a bit on the hair, I liked it!

Like the show. Fern Mallis makes the show would like to see more of her. Not liking Kelly Rowland, her comments do not seem relevant. Would like to see a co-host with more fashion background. Who picked the designers? They’re construction, Not Good! It looks more like they went for ‘wierd’ than design.
