Expert Panel: SNOB Style’s Erika Stanley on Bravo’s The Fashion Show Finale
FILED UNDER: Expert Panel, Features, Television, The Fashion Show Posted: July 17, 2009 by catwalker | LEAVE A COMMENTWe just wrapped up our interview about The Fashion Show finale with incomparable fashion expert Erika Stanley of SNOB Style. The hot topics of discussion? Anna, Daniella, Reco and James-Paul, of course! Read on to see what she had to say about their final collections, and even find out who she voted for…

SO!: In the elimination last night, the designers were critiqued for various mistakes in their collections. Among these were over-complexity, fit, lack of hanger appeal and discontinuity. Which of these errors do you think is the most unforgivable?
Either fit or hanger appeal. No matter how beautiful a piece is, no one is going to buy it if it doesn’t fit right. The line’s not going to sell to consumers, and the buyers just aren’t going to buy it. Take jeans, for example. A lot of people are dropping money on designer jeans because they fit so well.
SO!: The judges called Daniella out on being a sizest and repeatedly choosing the thinnest models to showcase her pieces. Do you think the judges of The Fashion Show were addressing a flaw they see in the fashion world?
Well, I totally agree with the judges that Daniella is a sizest. Daniella uses the models as hangers. She can still have thin models, but she needs to break away from only creating and designing for that market, because it’s not going to sell anywhere else than Los Angeles! She is designing for a very targeted market that is not America.
SO!: Daniella was praised for playing on a woman’s shoulders in her collection, but criticized for not incorporating enough femininity. How do you feel about her androgyny?
Some of the judges had a problem with it, but I didn’t think it was a problem. It’s her look to be androgynous. What I didn’t like is the combination of trend and lack of originality in her collection. Yes, she played on shoulders, but I already saw that on the runway. The shoulder pads thing is not something that’s going to stick around. What would have been more interesting is if she came up with her own interpretation instead of imitating other designers.
SO!: If you could pair each designer’s collection with a big name in Hollywood, who do you see wearing each respective line?
I see Sandra Bullock or Kate Hudson wearing Anna’s line. For Daniella? I see Whitney Port, because she does edgy. For James-Paul…let me get back to you. I think either Mariah Carey or Denise Richards would wear Reco’s.
SO!: After seeing their collections, who do you think will win The Fashion Show?
Anna is taking it. Her collection has hanger appeal. It has color. It has variety, whereas Reco’s was very, very repetitive. Each piece that came out in Reco’s collection had that V thing – it’s like “Houston, we have a problem”. I think America will vote for someone that they like and want to see win, and I don’t think they like Daniella. I see people liking and wanting to wear Anna’s pieces much more than Daniella’s. People are thinking for themselves, especially in a recession, and they need a reason to want to buy something.

Considering how lackluster some of the designs have been, I was surprised at the collections, they were better than I expected. I am not a fan of Anna’s but its pretty wearable. We’ll see, Daniella did a pretty stunning collection I think, although she did have some fit issues, it was the most complex I thought.

Hi!
Great interview. Personally I don’t see Sandra Bullock or Kate Hudson wearing Anna’s line. You can see this situation I all nations.
