SO!: What does designing for a major name in the business mean to you?

LA: To design for a respectful and big name in the industry is a great experience for any young designer in the beginning of his or her career. I was fortunate enough to take an apprenticeship while I was in school at DVF design studio and worked closely with the design director.

SO!:  Do you personally feel that you met the challenge expectations?

LA: While working on the challenge my team thought outside of the box, translating Isaac’s inspiration conceptually and not copying it literally. We were concentrated in finishing our ensemble, making sure there were no safety pins or unfinished details. And in the end our piece wasn’t chosen by the audience as the one that 90% of the audience wouldn’t wear.

SO!: How was it working with James Paul? If you could choose another partner for this challenge, who would it be and why?

LA: James-Paul is a very talented young designer; I appreciate his design aesthetic and his approach to fashion. I think as a person and team partner he is a good person to work with, but in real life, I wouldn’t choose another person to work with. As far as being in a competition he stood for himself, as anyone would do in the same situation.

SO!: Imagine for a moment that you are a judge for the competition. If you could pick the bottom two for this week, who would they be and why?

LA: Definitely the design by Reco and Daniella for the choice of style, color combination and design aesthetic.

SO!: If you could go back and rework your design for this week’s challenge, what would you do differently?

LA: I would ask my partner to be a team player with me, and not to hold back his thoughts, but to express his opinion directly to me. Also, I would go back and do at least 2 fittings of my dress, rethink it as a complete ensemble of both our 2 pieces together.

SO!: What’s next for you as a designer?

LA: I’m being persistent with my goal of establishing my own solid high-end couture apparel line and currently working on a new luxury leather interior home and women’s accessories collection. As well as I’m looking for the right people to get interested in it and open new ventures in my career. I think by being on The Fashion Show and making 7 challenges, which is more than just half of this show’s season, definitely brought my name to be heard and be exposed on a national level. Before, you didn’t know who Lidia Amirova was and now you do, that means that my mission on this show is accomplished. Please visit my website to check out my real work at www.lidiaamirova.com.
