Exclusive Interview: Haven from Bravo’s The Fashion Show
FILED UNDER: Exclusive Interviews, The Fashion Show Posted: June 27, 2009 by behindtheseams | LEAVE A COMMENTYesterday, SeenON! sat down to chat with designer Haven from The Fashion Show. During the Episode 8 elimination, the judges weren’t buying Haven’s YSL-inspired piece – but Haven has held her head high and is a joy to chat with! Read on to see what she had to say about the show!
SO!: At first it seemed like being assigned YSL was an easy ticket to win. But it turns out that designing for this fashion great proved a much more difficult feat. Out of the competing designers, who do you think really lucked out in this challenge?
H:I don’t know about luck, but Johnny had Versace, and it seemed like a perfect fit for him. The final product was clearly was Johnny’s style but you could see Versace in it as well. I really loved Daniella’s and I didn’t think that she would find some much inspiration from Dior. I really loved what she did. I don’t think Johnny lucked out, rather it was a perfect match.
SO!: Isaac listed a number of different directions you could go with for YSL in his critiques. If you could completely start over again, which representation of YSL would you go with?
H:My idea was supposed to incorporate YSL’s safari style, but I just didn’t get there in time. Those are some very hard shoes to fill, and YSL is my favorite designer. I got stressed out. I think I would have kept my same idea (I was trying to marry the suit with safari) but changed the colors. Just as I was leaving the fabric store, I saw black, green and white colors and it hit me that I chose the wrong color. Isaac recommended that I do shorts, but I have done them time after time. I think I just let the pressure get to me because he is my favorite .
SO!: Do you think knowing too much about your fashion great overwhelmed you and, in a way, worked against you in this challenge?
H:Most definitely. I don’t think that you can compare. YSL is the most influential designer to me. And to be honest, I was overwhelmed.
