From the Makeup Room: Winning Looks from Dancing With The Stars 804

While Giles and Cheryl may have dominated another night on the dance floor of Dancing With The Stars (a flawless score of 30!), there are a few ladies who did a little more than showcase some fancy foot work. The said dancers are Lacey and Julianne. And they. Looked. Hot! Sizzling, in fact. Enough to bring any boy to his knees.

We know you’re just dying to get their beauty secrets, so without further delay we bring you Lacey and Julianne’s alluring makeup looks – straight from Emmy award-winning chief makeup artist, Melanie Mills.

Lacey: The Lindy Hop

To achieve Lacey’s soft smokey eyes from her Lindy Hop number with Steve-O, Melanie recommends using Dior mousse in undressed beige with MAC pigment in melon on the eye lid.

Ready for picture-perfect cheeks? Melanie says to brush on Chanel’s Turbulent Blush and add MAC’s Iridescent Powder with Make Up For Ever’s Star Powder to evoke that healthy, shimmery glow like Lacey.  How to get Lacey’s luscious, pouty lips? Lacquer on MAC’s Soar Lip Liner with Allison Raffaele Skin Lipgloss in Sweet and finish with Chelsea Girl Lip Gloss from NARS.

Julianne: The Lindy Hop

If you’re lusting after Julianne’s sweet and subtle throwback look, Melanie suggests starting with Armani foundation. Ready for radiant cheeks that won’t quit? Use MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish like Melanie did on Julianne.

Looking for eyes that refuse to be ignored? Try Make Up For Ever’s Star Powder and Finish with Lancome’s Artliner in black. Want Julianne’s rosy, kissable lips? Coat yours in Julie Hewett’s Rouge Noir Lipliner and saturate with Bobby Brown’s Lipgloss in Cherry.

Go sexy like Lacey or classically elegant like Julianne – either way, you’re bound to capture a look worthy of a perfect 10.

From The Makeup Room: Melissa’s Look from Dancing With The Stars 802

While Giles Marini secured his lead last night on Dancing With The Stars with a score of 27 (an uncanny three 9′s!), show newcomer Melissa Rycroft also made her way into the spotlight with a sensational performance that judge Carrie Ann Inaba called “Slammin’!” But Melissa didn’t only dance like a super star – she also looked like one!

Dying to know how you can achieve Melissa’s breathtaking look? Appease your fans with a flawless golden tan! Turn to St. Tropez Every Day Body Moisturizer like chief make-up artist Melanie Mills does to help the stars achieve a healthy glow. Apply eye shadow from Urban Cowboy to get soft smokey eyes that can’t be ignored. Finally, finish with high-gloss tinted lipglass from MAC Cosmetics to get sexy kissable lips.

Now that’s a look that’s worthy of a perfect 10!

From The Makeup Room: Dancing With The Stars’ Melanie Mills on Beauty Trends

  |  { 2 } COMMENTS

We’re only a few hours away from the season premiere of Dancing With The Stars and we just can’t wait to find out which celebs have been selected to replace those that have already fallen (that’s right – no Jewel or Nancy). You’d better believe we’re eagerly anticipating a whole lot of skill as well as drama from this eclectic group, but what we’re really excited about is the beauty.

Recently, we had the chance to catch up with the show’s Emmy award-winning chief makeup artist, Melanie Mills, to find out which big beauty trends have made it into the crew’s makeup plan for tackling the biggest season ever!

Eyes: According to Melanie, we can expect eyes that are saturated in rich aquas as well as sexy, smokey blends of “greys, browns and blacks.” We’re thinking we might see a work of art similar to Toni Braxton on the Season 7 Finale.

Lashes: Luxe, voluminous lashes at that. Melanie says that the crew turns to Ardell lashes, especially demis and wispies, to achieve that special touch that gets the look. According to Melanie, it’s not unusal to go through fours pairs on one person per night!

Lips: That’s “perfect red lips” in Melanie’s exact words. Think Lacey Schwimmer coupled with Lance Bass in full sailor garb from Season 7. This trend is part of the crew’s attempt to channel the Old Hollywood glamour that evokes classic beauty and sheer elegance.

Cheeks: They wouldn’t truly be stars if they didn’t shine! Melanie says that we can expect iridescent cheeks – the kind that exude a healthy shimmer and glow. The crew turns to such products as Dior’s Luminescence Foundation and Shu Uemura’s face powder to achieve these results. No one is a better example of this makeup strategy than last season’s winner, Brooke Burke!

Check back every week for more insider makeup tips from Melanie Mills. And make sure to catch tonight’s two-hour season premiere of Dancing With The Stars on ABC!

From the Makeup Room: Dancing With The Stars’ Melanie Mills on Makeup Must-Haves

The celebrities on seasons past of Dancing With The Stars certainly look breathtaking. But chances are you don’t have hours and hours (or the $100,000 budget) to spend on making yourself look just as glamorous.

The solution? Get the must-haves.

We recently caught up with the show’s Emmy award-winning chief makeup artist Melanie Mills to find out which products, exactly, are worth your precious money and will help you achieve a star-approved look in a fraction of the time.

Mascara: For thick, long lashes that just won’t quit? Melanie recommends Dior’s Diorshow mascara in rich black or L’Oreal’s Voluminous waterproof mascara for easy, all-day wear.

Iridescent Eye Shadow: For radiant eyes that look healthy, sexy and alluring? Melanie suggests Midnight Cowboy eyeshadow from Urban Decay. Add a light grey shade in the eyelid crease to give even more dimension.

Foundation: The most important part of any look. Melanie recommends taking five minutes to build a solid foundation. This includes selecting the appropriate shade and properly blending around the neck and ears as to elude that unsightly “line.” Choose from MAC mineral makeup, RCMA crème foundation palettes and Lancome’s tinted moisturizer like they use on the show.

Gloss: The perfect finishing touch. Show favorites include MAC‘s “Plink” and “Russian Red,” and Stila’s “Cinnamon,” “Strawberry,” “Papaya” and “Mocha” lip gloss.

Check back every week for more insider makeup tips from Melanie Mills as we cover the biggest season ever of Dancing With The Stars starting Monday, March 9 at 8/7c!

From the Makeup Room: Dancing With the Stars’ Melanie Mills on A Flawless Glow

Are you one of those Dancing With The Stars fanatics that has been dying to know how to get a picture-perfect tan like seasoned veteran dancer Kym Johnson? A lot certainly happens in front of the camera, but a whole lot more goes on behind the scenes in the makeup room. And, recently, we had the chance to catch up with the show’s Emmy award-winning chief makeup artist Melanie Mills to find out how, exactly, those spinning beauties achieve such flawless, golden looks.

SeenON!: Dancers Kym Johnson and Brooke Burke definitely stood out on the show. How did Kym get such a flawless tan and Brooke a natural glow?

Melanie: For Kym, we used layers of spray tan mix as well as St. Tropez’s line of self-tanners. It’s a line that’s used in many high-end hotels. Guerlain bronzers are also applied to the shoulders and clavicals. On Brooke, we used St. Tropez’s loose powder bronzer in addition to the self-tanners to help her achieve that healthy natural glow.

SO!: We understand that you also have your own solution called “Mel’s Mix” that’s used on the contestants. How is it different from St. Tropez and is it available to the public?

M: “Mel’s Mix” is what really gave the dancers that iridescent glow. It’s a cosmetic shimmer glow – not a self-tanner. I’m working with St. Tropez right now to sell the product in their line.

SO!: That’s great news! So maybe fans of the show will finally be able to look like the stars?

M: People should know that we spend up to five hours making these already beautiful people even more beautiful. But they can certainly achieve a beautiful color with the help of these products.
