Let’s face it. Choosing your wedding gown is one of the most monumental fashion choices of your life and, unlike most decisions, you are actually lucky if you only have to make it once. Your choice should flatter your body and be location-appropriate (please no Cinderella ball gowns on the beach in Maui). But most importantly the dress you choose should reflect who you are because, Sarah Jessica Parker aside, that isn’t likely to change. Are you classic or contemporary? Romantic or modern? Virginal white or ?? Ok you get the picture.
When choosing the dress that Bree wore on last night’s episode of Desperate Housewives costume designer Cate Adair had a myriad of factors to consider. From the story line, to Marcia’s Cross’s beautiful redhead coloring, to her recent real-life nuptials, Cate was faced with countless decisions. But the question that she asked as she looked at every single dress was, “Is it quintessential Bree?”.
Well if you saw last night’s episode I think you will agree that ‘being Bree’ isn’t too shabby. The gown she wore was by famed bridal designer Reem Acra and was absolutely stunning. Acra is studied in both Paris and New York and is a favorite of celebrities such as Halle Barry and Penelope Cruz. She was also, by pure coincidence, the designer of choice for Marcia Cross’ real-life wedding.
Personally I found the most beautiful aspect of this classic strapless dress to be its warm “blush champagne” color. According to Adair, there is ‘not a skin tone in the world” that this shade doesn’t flatter. Well obviously always-perfect Bree isn’t the easiest person to compare yourself to but hey, it is fantasy!
